Charge a Card on the In-Store Reader
If you’ve paired a Stripe Terminal reader (S710 etc.) for the invoice’s store, you can take in-person payment without typing a card number — chip, tap, swipe, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.
If you haven’t paired a reader yet, see Pair a Stripe Terminal Reader first.
How to charge
- Open the invoice you want to charge.
- Switch to the Payments tab.
- Click Charge with Terminal. (The button only appears if the store has at least one paired reader.)
- The amount defaults to the outstanding balance — leave it as is to charge the full balance, or type a smaller amount for a partial payment.
- If the store has multiple readers paired, pick one. With a single reader, JewelTrak picks it automatically.
- Click Charge.
The reader prompts the customer: Insert / tap / swipe card. JewelTrak shows a live status banner: Waiting for the customer to present payment…
When the customer pays
- Approved — the banner flips to green: “Charged $X on reader name”. The payment is recorded on the invoice immediately and the balance updates. If this brings the balance to zero, the invoice auto-finalizes.
- Declined / cancelled / timed out — the banner flips red with the reason from Stripe. Click Dismiss and try again, or take payment another way.
Receipts
The customer’s card receipt is sent automatically by Stripe (using the email on file for the customer, if any). JewelTrak’s branded invoice can be emailed separately via the Email button in the invoice header.
Cancelling an in-flight charge
If the customer changes their mind before paying, click Cancel on the live status banner. The reader stops asking for the card and the invoice’s outstanding balance stays put.
Common issues
“No reader paired for this store” — pair one in Settings → Stores. See Pair a Stripe Terminal Reader.
“Stripe is not connected for this store” — the store needs to complete Stripe Connect onboarding before any charges work, in person or by link.
“This store’s Stripe account is restricted” — Stripe has paused payments on this account. Sign in to your Stripe dashboard and resolve outstanding requirements.
“Reader is offline” — make sure the reader is plugged in / charged and on the same Wi-Fi as when you paired it. Click Refresh in Settings → Stores → Stripe to re-check.
