Save Inventory Items to a Customer’s Wishlist

Sales staff often want to remember “this item caught John’s eye” — the engagement-ring shopper considering a setting, the repeat customer who likes art-deco styles, the husband shopping for an anniversary gift. JewelTrak’s customer wishlist saves the link explicitly so staff don’t have to rely on memory or Post-it notes.

How to save

On any inventory detail page (jewelry, diamonds, watches, colored stones, pearls), the header has a Save for customer button.

  1. Click Save for customer.
  2. Pick the customer from the search box.
  3. Add an optional note (e.g. “Considering for engagement ring — wants matching band”).
  4. Save.

Done. The item appears on that customer’s Wishlist tab.

The same customer + same piece can’t be saved twice — JewelTrak silently dedupes and tells you (“Already on this customer’s wishlist”) rather than creating duplicates.

Each row shows:

  • Stock # (click to jump to the inventory item)
  • Type (J = jewelry, S = stone, W = watch)
  • Description
  • Notes (the optional context you added at save time)
  • Saved date
  • Remove button

Use cases

Engagement-ring shopper — they came in, looked at three settings, narrowed to one but want to think about it. Save it for them. When they come back next week, you (or any other salesperson) can look up their wishlist and pick up the conversation.

Repeat customer — over time, their wishlist becomes a profile of what they’re interested in. Powerful input to:

  • Birthday / anniversary marketing (cross-reference with /reports/birthdays)
  • Email when something similar arrives
  • Recommend complementary pieces

Gift shopper — wife looking for a watch for her husband’s birthday. Save options under HER customer record (her notes: “for John’s 50th”), not his. Easier to retrieve.

Multi-staff handoff — wishlist makes context portable across staff. Anyone helping the customer can see what they’ve been considering.

Removing items

The Remove button on each wishlist row is one-click — no confirm dialog (the row can always be re-added). If a customer’s tastes change, just clear it out.

What gets logged

Every save creates an audit-log entry (customer_wishlist table). You can see who saved an item and when.

What’s not there yet

  • Bulk-save from list pages (currently detail-page-only)
  • “Show me what’s been wishlisted but not bought in 90 days” report — useful for follow-up campaigns
  • Auto-email customer when wishlisted item drops in price
