Navigation & Lookup

Search & Quick Find

Global search across diamonds, jewelry, watches, contacts, work orders, invoices, memos, and appraisals. Click the magnifying glass in the top nav (or use the Search tab in the mobile PWA bottom nav). Type a name, StockID, invoice number, anything — results from every record type appear, each row opens in a peek drawer.

Search & Quick Find

Click the magnifying glass in the top nav (or tap the Search tab in the mobile bottom nav) to open the global search page at /search. The input is focused automatically — start typing.

What it searches

Search looks across eight entity types at once and returns hits from each:

  • Diamonds (white + fancy) — by shape, color, clarity, lab, cert #, or StockID
  • Jewelry — by description, style #, group, or StockID
  • Watches — by brand, model, description, or StockID
  • Contacts (customers / vendors / partners) — by name, company, phone, email
  • Work Orders — by envelope #, customer name, description, or RepairID
  • Invoices — by OrderID or customer name
  • Memos — by MemoID or customer name
  • Appraisals — by AppraisalID or customer name

Type a number, find a record

Numeric searches are treated as direct ID lookups. Type 502558 and any record with that ID — invoice, memo, work order, stock item — surfaces immediately. Direct ID lookups work even on sold / scrapped / returned items, so you can find historical stones too.

Results open as Quick Peeks

Each result row opens a Quick Peek drawer when clicked — same pattern as everywhere else in the app. See [[Quick Peek — Look at Anything Without Leaving|quick-peek]] for details. Your search query, filters, and scroll position stay preserved while you peek through results.

Closing the search page

When you’re done, press Esc or click the X button in the search bar to return to whatever page you came from. If you reached /search directly (refresh, new tab), the X falls back to the dashboard.

Diamond filters

For dealers / shops that move a lot of stones, the filters icon (sliders) on the search bar opens a panel with:

  • Carat range (min / max) — targets the stone’s current weight
  • Color range (D–Z)
  • Clarity range (IF, VVS1, VVS2, …)

Filters apply on top of any text search. Use a wide carat range without a query to browse all stones in inventory matching that range.

Barcode scanner

The scan icon (next to the input) opens your device’s camera to scan a barcode or QR code. JewelTrak tags encode StockID as a numeric code:

  • Numbers ≥ 800000 jump to /watches/[id]
  • Numbers 500000–799999 jump to /diamonds/[id]
  • Everything else jumps to /inventory/[id]

Non-numeric scans populate the search box for cross-table lookup.

Multi-scan inline feedback

When the scanner is used to add items rapidly (Walk-In POS scan-to-add), the scanner stays open and shows a green / red confirmation chip directly inside the camera view after each scan (“Added stock 503048” or “Not in inventory”). No need to close the scanner between scans — keep pointing the camera at the next tag.

Installing JewelTrak on your phone

JewelTrak installs as a Progressive Web App — once installed, it has its own icon on your home screen, opens full-screen without the browser address bar, and gets a bottom tab bar built for one-thumb operation. There’s nothing to download from the App Store or Play Store; the install is built into the browser.

iPhone or iPad (Safari)

Safari is required — Chrome and other browsers on iOS can’t install web apps. If you opened JewelTrak in another browser, copy the URL and paste it into Safari first.

  1. Open JewelTrak in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button — the square with the up arrow, at the bottom of the screen on iPhone or the top on iPad.
  3. Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. (Optional) Edit the name if you want — leave it as “JewelTrak”.
  5. Tap Add in the top-right.
  6. The JewelTrak icon appears on your home screen. Tap it to open — you’re now in the installed app.

Android (Chrome, Edge, or Samsung Internet)

  1. Open JewelTrak in Chrome and sign in.
  2. Tap the menu button (three dots, top-right).
  3. Tap Install app (or Add to Home Screen in older Chrome).
  4. Tap Install in the confirmation dialog.
  5. The JewelTrak icon appears on your home screen and in your app drawer.

Edge and Samsung Internet follow the same pattern — look for “Install” or “Add to Home Screen” in their menu.

The easy way: the install banner

On your second visit to JewelTrak on a phone or tablet, an Install JewelTrak banner slides up automatically at the bottom of the screen.

  • Android: Tap Install — the OS install dialog opens, one more tap and you’re done.
  • iOS: Tap Install — JewelTrak shows the same Share → Add to Home Screen steps as above (Apple doesn’t expose a one-tap install API for websites, so this is as direct as iOS allows).

Dismissing the banner hides it for 30 days. If you missed it or want to install right away, use the manual steps above.

After installing

Where it lives

  • Home-screen icon — same place as any other app
  • App switcher — appears as a separate app, not as a browser tab
  • Notifications + the address bar are gone; you get a clean full-screen view

Bottom tab bar

The installed app shows a bottom tab bar with Home, Search, a centered + New Sale button (raised, the way Square and Shopify POS apps do it), Inventory, and More. Tapping a tab is one thumb-stretch away — built for use behind the counter.

App-icon shortcuts

Long-press the JewelTrak app icon on your phone’s home screen for quick actions without opening the app first:

  • Scan barcode — opens the camera scanner immediately
  • New sale — jumps straight to Walk-In POS
  • Quick search — opens the global search

Saves a tap or two when you’re between counters.

Signing in lasts longer

The installed PWA gets a longer session timeout (8 hours of inactivity) than the browser version (2 hours), so it doesn’t log you out as often during a normal workday.

Updating

JewelTrak updates itself in the background — when we ship new features, your installed app picks them up on the next launch. No App Store update flow.

Tips

  • The input is auto-focused on mount, so you can click the magnifying glass → start typing → tap the result. Three actions, never any extra clicks.
  • Use Esc to close without reaching for the X.
  • For specific report drill-downs (e.g., “all invoices for customer X”), go to the Reports module instead — search is for “find one record fast”.
